Hotel Anteroom Naha: A Fusion of Art and Hospitality

UDS Ltd.'s Innovative Design Wins Silver A' Design Award

Hotel Anteroom Naha, located in Naha city, Okinawa, Japan, is a distinctive accommodation facility that seamlessly merges the hotel and art. The entire hotel serves as a gallery, showcasing artworks throughout the building. This unique setup allows guests to enjoy art in an extraordinary setting and participate in a one-of-a-kind accommodation experience.

The design of Hotel Anteroom Naha is inspired by the simplicity of white cube gallery spaces. The interior design is minimal, allowing guests to focus on the artworks exhibited throughout the hotel. The façade, interior, and furniture were designed in close collaboration with artists, transforming the space itself into a piece of art.

The hotel is constructed with Glass fiber reinforced concrete panels, which can be flexibly shaped while retaining their durability. This serves as a protection against the tropical sun and wind, while also being the largest art installation of the facility. The guest rooms are designed with a nautical theme, detailed with round shapes, and toned in blue-gray pallets of the sea.

Hotel Anteroom Naha aims to revitalize its neighborhood community through collaboration with contemporary art and local culture. The hotel’s gallery regularly hosts exhibitions and provides opportunities for upcoming artists to showcase their works. Market events featuring local small businesses are organized regularly, making the facility a place for interaction between guests and locals.

The project, which started in April 2016, was completed and began operation in February 2020. The hotel is a 7 floors building of a steel-framed structure, with a total floor area of 5756 square meters. It consists of 126 guest rooms, a restaurant, a bar lounge, a gallery, and a roof-top area.
